Not like it used to be.

Hi! I’m Agent P, and I’ve just been addicted to online TV.

Yes, I am slow. :lol:

It started when my local cable provider sucked big time. Coincidentally, Globe offered to upgrade by net connection at home and threw in this lovely contraption called an Android box which allowed my not-too-smart TV to connect to the internet via WiFi and let me install these lovely streaming apps and watch it on the big screen. Since then, I dropped my cable subscription and signed up for everything that’s available in my country: Netflix, iFlix, HOOQ, Fox+, with YouTube and Viki thrown in for good measure. Thanks to these apps, I was able to update myself with the latest on K-entertainment. I haven’t really plunged myself back to the world of K-dramas, though; too much commitment for that. :P But I have been watching a lot of Korean variety shows and music clips, so I’ve been a little bit abreast with the latest trends.

Nowadays, I’ve been literally hooked on HOOQ. True confession: the only reason why I signed up on HOOQ is because they have Alden’s drama series, Victor Magtanggol, on their line-up. :hihihi: However, I discovered that HOOQ has a vast collection of classic Filipino movies and TV shows as well as a good number of indie films. It’s the classic movies that had me deciding to continue my subscription after the free trial period expires. Finally, I can watch those movies any time I want instead of waiting for it to be aired on Cinema One or PBO. I have practically the entire roster of Regal Films movies from the 80’s on my playlist. :hihihi:

Which brings me to this anecdote. (Damn, I sound so random. :grin: Then again randomness has always been my blogging style, so whatever.) One of the first old Pinoy movies which I watched on HOOQ is Ten Little Indians, released in 1982 and starring William Martinez; Herbert Bautista (now Mayor of Quezon City) and his two siblings Hero and Harlene; and the WEA Twins. (How classic is that? :lol: )

I just remembered seeing it at a movie house when I was a little kid and remember crying buckets over it, so I checked it out.

I got the shock of my life.

The movie started out just like a typical Regal movie in the 80’s (although this one was actually released by Good Harvest Films, a subsidiary of Regal). William’s character was a mentally-challenged guy who has fantasies of being a cowboy who hates Indians (as in Native American Indians). At one point, while in his cowboy fantasies, he kidnapped a bunch of children and their teacher, because they wore costumes as the ten little Indians for a school program. That alone is reeking of political incorrectness.

And then it gets uglier.

While in the mountains, cowboy and Indians eventually developed affinity with one another until they chanced upon a group of gangsters. The gangsters beat up the cowboy; raped the teacher in front of the kids (!); verbally abused the female children through sexual innuendos; attempted to rape one of the girls because the gangster wasn’t satisfied with the teacher (!!!!!) (there’s even a cringe-worthy scene where they were asking the girls’ ages and found the 8-year-old ‘too young’ while the 10-year-old ‘pwede na‘ Oh God that was disturbing); shot and killed one of the boys point-blank, in front of the others; and two other boys got killed so that the rest of them can escape.

I was thinking: if this was shown today, it would definitely be slapped with an R-18 rating. That is, assuming it gets shown at all. I’m pretty sure it will generate a lot of disapproving buzz from netizens who always find something to complain about.

And then it hit me: I saw this film when I was a child. At a movie theater. I don’t even remember who I saw it with, but most probably my cousins who were also minors at the time.

I don’t remember finding it offensive at all. Or did I even understand what was going on then?

Times have really changed.

===

Speaking of things that have changed…

I saw these from my social media feeds today.

1. Mr Weatherman’s fanmeets now have mandatory group photo ops with the attendees;
2. One Filipina Shinhwa Changjo was recognized by some Shinhwa members at an event in Korea. As in the members know her by face and name;
3. Shin Hye Sung wore a Penshoppe hoodie, given by a Pinoy fan.

I wonder: if I didn’t give up on the Kpop scene, maybe someday I’ll finally get my moment with my Korean idol? In 20 years, maybe? Most of my fellow Clouds got it at the 13-year mark…

This last paragraph is random as hell. :lmao:

Starting over.

Hello, blog readers! Are you still there? :razz:

I think I should be the one asking myself that question: Hello, Agent P! Are you still here?

I think it’s about a week ago when I received an email notification from Google Adsense telling me that my subscription has been terminated due to non-activity. Basically, it’s telling me that my blog has been dead, so they’re pulling out.

I honestly didn’t know what to feel when I read that email.

To be quite honest, I have been seriously pondering on whether I should still continue maintaining this blog. I have been amiss with updating it, and the few times that I have updated it, I wasn’t sure if people are still reading. I was thisclose to posting something ‘controversial’ just to check if it’s still generating site traffic. :lmao: The only reason why it’s still up is because my domain and webspace are paid until April 2019. After that, I’m still not sure if I’m still willing to pay good money to have it renewed.

It will all depend on what will happen within the next few months.

Why am I updating this now? Well, there’s a lot of things happening in the next few days, so I needed to refresh my blogging skills. Alden’s concert is this Friday. (Not sure if I have the drive to blog about this, though. I’m kinda traumatized from writing/posting about him and either getting ignored, or receiving a ton of ridicule and messages telling me to go kill myself in return. :neutral: ) The week after that, I’m going back to K-pop for Seventeen’s Manila concert. (Yup, surprise! I’m watching Ideal Cut in Manila. One of these days I’m going to blog about how it happened.) Next month, I’ll be reviving my passion for travel, photography and food-tripping. That should keep this blog busy before I plunge back to that stressful environment known as my day job…

Of course, blogging all of that will only be possible if, and only if, I have the drive to write. I need some motivation. No. A LOT of motivation. A little push, please? :razz:

Random thoughts No. 89.

This is probably the randomest of random thoughts I’ll ever write on this blog. :lol: My brain needs to reboot for my thoughts to be properly arranged.

===

I really envy those people who identify themselves as successful professionals (lawyers, doctors, businessmen, etc), thus, are normally very busy people, yet are able to write novel-length commentary about showbiz on social media on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, here I am. A licensed professional who only pretends to be busy once a year :lmao: yet I struggle to find the time to update this blog.

I envy them so much because, how the heck were they able to find time analyzing every imaginable topic about their idol – or the idol’s onscreen partner – and putting them all in writing? :think: Just writing this random thoughts entry took me about a day, and I barely did anything but sleep and practice my Lenten traditions this Holy Week break.

===

Then again, I’m only like this because I’ve been overly stressed since July last year due to family matters. My mind and body ache for a loooooong break from everything. But I can’t have that now. Not yet, anyway.

===

I wanted to avoid commenting about this (non) issue, but I will, anyway. About Alden Richards’ flaunting of his newly-toned abs. :hihihi:

1. To those who still insist that it’s an old photo and he’s still chubby: I can’t tell the details on how I know – because some of you will not like it :P – but trust me on this. It’s NOT an old photo. He really has a flat tummy, toned back muscles and no man-boobs now.

2. So he posted a shameless selfie flaunting his almost-there physique. So what? He worked hard for it. He has all the right in the world to proudly show it off.

3. You gotta admire an actor who would go at great lengths to prepare for an upcoming project. That shows passion and commitment to his craft. If you call yourself his fan and can’t see the point as to why he has to shape up, then… I don’t really know how you could manage to call yourself his fan.

4. I find it weird that people would fault him for being fit and healthy. I don’t get it. They ridicule his fans – like me, for instance – for being fat, and they also ridicule him for being fit. We can’t win with these people.

5. Then again, these are the same people who profess love for Alden but would campaign for a boycott of his solo projects. Logic and consistency do not exist in their world.

6. As for the morality issue that’s being thrown at him now: guys, don’t even go there. You might regret it. I mean, your idol also flaunts herself wearing skimpy swimsuits on social media. If you’re going to slap the morality clause on other artists, make sure it won’t backfire on your faces.

===

I recently made a comeback on Twitter. Actually, I’ve been posting photos on Twitter every now and then but they barely get any attention, probably because I haven’t been posting anything that might be perceived as ‘controversial’. :hihihi: I posted a number of photos from Sunday Pinasaya‘s April 1 episode, which included photos of Alden and other actresses (most notably, Sanya Lopez). It couldn’t be helped as they were all part of the Charade of Stars segment of SPS.

Suddenly, I am getting Tweets from bashers again. Woo-hoo! :cheer: I just don’t understand why they’re so fixated at the Alden-Sanya photos when I also posted photos of Alden with other female stars, ie., Rhian Ramos and Arny Ross.

I did notice two things: (1) as of this moment, I’ve only gotten three negative replies on those posts, a vast improvement from those days when I was inactive on Twitter and some people still ridicule me whenever a few of my private Facebook posts get leaked out (seriously, guys, are your lives that boring that you would actually waste time and effort to screengrab my FB posts, leak them out and talk about me on Twitter?); and (2) I only posted photos without any commentary nor any mention of artists who are not in those photos, yet these people still went out of their way to check my Twitter feed and post scathing comments. Which means they’re just trolls who would spew hatred towards me just because, thus, don’t deserve my time and attention.

But I gave them a few spaces on my blog, anyway, so congratulations to them, I think?

===

Speaking of Sanya Lopez, I just want to share this short anecdote.

Me and a couple of friends were hanging out backstage by the elevators at the SPS studios last March 4, 2018 when suddenly, out came Sanya, wearing that sexy backless gown that she wore for Charade of Stars. I stared at her, dumbfounded. She’s so gorgeous. :dream: Cameras don’t do justice to her real facial features. I have seen Sanya a number of times before but only from a distance. It’s the first time for me to see her that close. I was frozen solid that I failed to snap a photo nor ask for a selfie even if I was holding my phone at the time.

Here’s the thing: the guy who came out the elevator with Sanya stood beside me for a few seconds to check his reflection on the mirror right across from where we stood. It was her brother, Jak Roberto. Whom I snubbed, because I haven’t recovered yet from seeing Sanya up close.

===

It just hit me right now.

I currently don’t belong to any fan club. I’m not restricted by any rules. I can go back to the old Agent P who writes nonsense commentary on anything again. :idea:

And because of recent developments, being a one-sided Alden fan cannot be used against me anymore. I mean, they still can, but it’s not as effective as before. That argument has lost its ‘teeth’.

The only thing that’s holding me back is, I have no time to argue on the internet. I’d rather use my free time to catch up on sleep.

Random Thoughts No. 88.

Warning: There’s a quite a bit of #DelusionalAgentP in here.

In the midst of rushing to meet my work deadlines, ignoring my niece who’s doing a marathon of Descendants of the Sun in the same room, and eating a bowl of lugaw with the works (tokwa, baboy, lumpia at itlog), I had some random thoughts. I don’t know why those random thoughts just popped in my head while I was busy carving meat off a pig’s cheeks, but they just did.

1. Rain trying to hide while dating his publicly-known girlfriend vs. Song Hye Kyo proudly posting photos of her friendly gatherings with people like Yoo Ah In and Song Joong Ki on her own Instagram only cements our past suspicions that it was Rain who didn’t want to reveal his real relationship with Hye Kyo to the public. He’s still hiding, and she is not. Yes, I still believe that they were in a relationship. Remember which blog you are in.

2. Hye Kyo has been open about meeting up with the guys she works or worked with, but can anyone recall if she had at least openly talked about her personal relationship with Hyun Bin before? :think: Because right now, I don’t remember anything of that sort. This also cements my belief that H2 wasn’t – isn’t – real. She never hid her relationship with Lee Byung Hun in the past, didn’t she?

3. Someone might point out that Hye Kyo also hid relationship (whatever it was) with Rain, therefore, BiKyo wasn’t real, neither. My response to that is: See (1). Also, she eventually revealed through interviews that she met up with Rain from time to time. She never had that sort of thing with Hyun Bin.

4. I haven’t really watched DoTS yet because I’m already late with my reports (to those people who tell me to ditch my reports in favor of DoTS: how about YOU finish my reports for me so that I can watch DoTS? :nono: Wag kayong ano). From what I’ve seen, so far, I seem to be more drawn towards Jin Goo instead of Song Joong Ki. As I’ve said before, I find SJK to be too pretty for my tastes.

5. For some reason, whenever Song Joong Ki smirks or does something cute on DoTS, I see Alden, the Kalyeserye character. It’s either I can see that Alden Richards is capable of portraying SJK’s DoTS character, or a sign that I have overdosed on Alden that I see him in almost everything.

This has got to be the randomest Random Thoughts entry, ever.

Eleven.

Today, April 26, 2016, marks this blog’s 11th year in existence.

And I am feeling wistful.

I long for the days when I could say whatever I want on this blog and/or social media and nobody will care.

Nowadays, I say something and there’s a strong possibility that it will eventually be taken against me.

I could rant about something totally valid and people will use it to their advantage – whatever that ‘advantage’ is.

And then, I will just find myself being caught in issues that were not even part of my concerns in the first place.

Before I knew it, I am tagged as the one causing trouble. Just because I said something that, in my eyes, is totally valid and reasonable.

They’d say, “you shouldn’t have said that.” Might as well just tell me, “you shouldn’t have been born in the first place.”

Whatever. I’ll just sleep this off. :sleep:
