Lee Min Ho, 2016.

Useless trivia: Lee Min Ho has had an event in Manila four times, and in three out of those four times, I was there. It’s one of those ‘for the sake of blogging’ things that I did a lot during my K-entertainment addiction era. Not bad for someone who’s admittedly not a fan. :hihihi:

Given that I’m quite out-of-touch with anything Korean these days, I wasn’t really planning on attending the latest Bench event featuring Lee Min Ho. I’m already at the retired fangirl phase and not in the mood to fight tooth-and-nail against big crowds just for the sake of blogging :stretcher: However, I was at another Bench event at the same venue last Wednesday where I was able to take pretty good photos without getting squished by the crowd (the cordoned-off area was simply not a place I wanted to be even if I have the required purchase to gain access to it) with a combination of finding a safe zone, namely the coffee shop three floors up that has the best view of the activity area, and Blackie Lou, my trusted Canon camera with 30x zoom lens. I needed a change of scenery, so to speak, and a friend wanted to see Lee Min Ho, so I joined her for this event.

Can I just say, thank God that I ‘discovered’ a way to avoid this crowd?

It doesn’t look as scary on still photos, but this crowd was literally moving like a tidal wave. There was a lot of pushing and shoving. Just like in the first Lee Min Ho event that I attended, it was like watching one huge lump of oatmeal, only a lot freakier because it was moving. :nailbite:

Then Lee Min Ho came out; I’m not too sure why, but he and host Sam Oh (again) stayed way up at the back of the stage even if there was considerable space left at the stage itself and out in front.

One of my companions said that if they move forward, they’ll get too close to the cameras and they won’t fit into the big screen behind them. Why didn’t they sort that out during set-up? Anyway, because Sam and LMH were almost stuck on that LED screen behind them, they were covered by the overhead lights and Lee Min Ho appeared headless from our vantage point up there at the safety zone. :aargh:

Fortunately, he moved towards his right during the Meet and Greet and I was able to take a few not-headless pics of him.

Lee Min Ho for Bench 2016

Unfortunately, it was over after a few minutes. I think he didn’t even last 20 minutes on stage? I realize that he was in a hurry because he still has to run to Megamall for another fanmeet, but I kinda felt bad for those who probably lined up at Trinoma even before the mall opened and had to fight through the moshpit just to see Lee Min Ho. Oh well, that’s fangirl life for you.

One last important note: there were no “praying mantis” moments at this event. Pinoy fans are learning how to treat Korean entertainers properly! Not-so-much for local artists, though. I’m still having nightmares from watching a few fans literally stealing kisses from the artistas during the Meet and Greet that happened just a couple of days prior… :ayaw:
