I’m pretty sure that we all watch television to be entertained. I mean, it’s a pastime; why would you want to spend your free time getting stressed?
However… how many times have you watched a television show where the hosts literally were just sitting there, having lunch, chatting with one another, giving advice to their younger co-hosts, laughing and having fun with the studio/remote broadcast audience while the cameras were rolling, and the energy just seeped through the TV screen that you ended up feeling like you’re part of it?
This, my friends, is what happened at this afternoon’s episode of Eat Bulaga.
I really don’t know how they did it. Their rival show – and evidently, the rival network, as a whole – has been racking their brains and exhausting their creative energies for tomorrow’s pre-anniversary special/network fans’ day. The rival show has enlisted the network’s biggest stars to make an appearance and their top loveteams to make pakilig for the fans. Meanwhile, Eat Bulaga‘s only counter-attack to an entire TV network is this: declaring tomorrow, September 26, 2015 as National Pabebe Wave Day. Save from asking the whole AlDub Nation to post photos of them doing the ‘pabebe wave’ on social media, we don’t even know what exactly that means. The hosts have been hyping this event since Wednesday, but none of them actually said – or maybe even knew? – what the event really is. It’s genius, actually. If I am the rival show, I would be racking my brains trying to figure out what my competitor is up to. Facing a blank wall would be so frustrating.
Oh, and there’s that whole ‘Lola Nidora allowing Alden to finally visit Yaya Dub at the mansion’ thing which they only announced last Thursday. So that’s all of the rival network’s established loveteams, vs. AlDub. Should be an interesting outcome no matter what it will be.
The more interesting part to me is the fact that, despite going head on against the entire machinery of the rival network and not just the rival show, Eat Bulaga seems to be unfazed. They were so relaxed today. All of the hosts (the ones who were present, that is) became part of today’s Kalyeserye episode, that is, if we can still call it an ‘episode’ because today’s episode did not have a story. It was just the hosts giving advice to Alden on how to go about his official first day of courtship with Maine – I mean Yaya Dub – , and needling Lola Nidora on how tomorrow’s events are going to unfold.
This is where I realized why I am so hooked on this show. Last week, while Alden and Maine were doing their dating game, we (as in me and my Voltes friends) just threw pillows at each other and danced along to Fantastic Baby every time Maine and Alden got matching answers. Today, the hosts literally just chatted away casually on screen and it felt like we were all guests at a family gathering. It was such a delightful experience.
We are hooked on this show not because we want to topple the competition. We are hooked on this show because we know that we are a part of it.
