People who regularly visit(ed) this blog would know how insanely jealous I am of lucky fans who get special treats from their idols. (And I’m even more jealous of fans whose idols are great with fan service. )
Ricky Martin has always been one of my best-loved artists. I was eleven when I first encountered Menudo and Ricky has been my favorite from the very beginning. My being a Ricky fan also brought me to the wonderful world of international fandom thanks to the wonders of the internet and through Ricky, I met some really great people who have eventually become my good friends even outside of the fandom.
Imagine how green I was in envy when my friend Sassy of Australian Friends of Ricky Martin posted this on Instagram on the date of her birthday. She celebrated her birthday with The Man himself. (Through a Meet and Greet, of course, but if you saw the footage you would think it was more of a special birthday surprise for her than a Meet and Greet.) I was insanely jealous, but it was jealousy in a good way. Sassy has been one of the most loyal Ricky followers there is. She has literally and figuratively trailed him for decades now (since she was nine, if I remember correctly) and probably has more Ricky encounters than anyone I’ve known, though she never really flaunted it. She truly deserved it.
Truly, persistence has its own rewards.
Of course, it helps if the artist is as genuinely sweet to his fans as Ricky Martin is.
Now, if we can only get Ricky back in Asia again soon. Preferably in Manila.

What’s this I heard that a certain someone who is (in)famous for his utter lack of fan service has allowed (1) fans to take photos if his most recent fan meet (very recent, as in today); and (2) even gave hugs to attendees?
Biglang rumi-Ricky Martin, ganon?
